27 Jun 2008 - T'ai Chi

This Beginners group is established at Sheet Village Hall Thursday 3pm.

If you Google “Benefits of Tai Chi” on the Internet, you will receive a long list, from the physical (improved breathing; improved balance; strengthening of ligaments and tendons), the psychological (reduce stress) to the spiritual (Ying / Yang harmony), and will say, “Why didn’t I start doing this 40 years ago!!”.  Sadly, it is not part of the English education system, and even in China its prominence is decreasing.

I started only 12 years ago so you need to ask my wife if it has worked for me!

You could also ask one of my class, who started 2 years ago, if they have felt any of these benefits.

“An ancient Chinese system of slowly flowing movements and shifts of balance” is a very succinct description of Tai Chi.  It has its origins in the martial arts but has developed into an exercise routine that really can help many different types of people.

It is true that the earlier you start the better it is, BUT it is never TOO late to start (unless you are unable to stand on your feet for 30 minutes).

It is one of those activities that is fairly easy to begin but takes a lifetime to master – you are seeking to improve the quality of your performance of the form every time you practice.

And the translation of Tai Chi – “Supreme Ultimate Force”.
