Petersfield U3A Family History - Group Two.

Programme for 2010

Venues vary. Time: 10.30 a.m. - 12 p.m.


FEB 9TH Problems and/or successes: If you have had a few successes tell us about them and how you manage to do it. Bring your (family research) problems along –together we may be able to help you sort them out. Venue: Physic Garden’s Meeting Room.

 

MAR 9TH Talk: ‘Migrant Children’ by Owen Neal: A very emotive subject. Not strictly family history but may help in realising where some ancestors may have gone and what happened to them, especially if you have had trouble finding them. (Owen gives part of his fee to the Rowan Hospice) Visitors are welcome. Members £1.50. Visitors £2. Venue: Exhibition Room, Community Centre, Love Lane, off Tor Way, Petersfield.

 

APRIL 13th Certificates, Census & Strange Words: Bring along a copy of any certificate you have that has something strange on it; be it odd names, strange deaths etc. etc. What have you found out about this anomaly? Have you come across peculiar professions, strange place names, odd deaths etc. etc. on either the certificate or census? Venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room.

 

MAY 11th Talk: ‘The Cholera Years’ by John Avery: Ever wondered why some ancestors seem to have just disappeared? Cholera swept through the country, killing thousands. This talk will make you think. Visitors are welcome. Members £1.50. Visitors £2. Venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room. Time: 2.30 – 4 pm.

 

JUNE, JULY & AUGUST: NO MEETINGS. Any member thinking of going to TNA in Kew, LDS record offices in Portsmouth, Royal Mail offices in London or some other research place, please get in touch as other people might like to go with you.

 

SEP 14TH Annual Review and share how you are putting together your Family History. venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room

 

OCT 12TH Mini A.G.M. then after, tell us about the books, web sites and Societies that are helping you with your research. Venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room

 

NOV 9TH Talk: The Bury Line by Susan Potts: I will tell you a little about who, what and how I found my Bury ancestors so far. Mince pies and sherry will see you through. (Next year I hope another member of our group will do the same sort of talk) Venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room

 

14 Dec               meeting TBA Venue: The Physic Garden’s Meeting Room

 

Meetings are normally from 10.30 am. – 12 noon. ** Please note that on May 11th the meeting is in the afternoon as our speaker is unavailable in the mornings. He is an excellent Speaker and not to be missed so please try and come along to hear him.
