Bridge for Beginners
The group began over three years ago and most of the people who started or re-started Bridge at that time are now playing Rubber Bridge or Chicago in their own homes (in between the sessions at the Community Centre) and a few have joined Bridge Clubs in the area, playing Duplicate Bridge.
We aim to provide the framework needed to be able to score Duplicate Bridge, use bidding boxes and have some idea of the competitive nature of playing Duplicate Bridge, whereby you are playing against other tables who are playing precisely the same cards as you, not merely your opponents, thus obliterating the ‘unfairness’ of poor cards all evening.
We welcome newcomers as well as seeing our ‘experienced’ players. The object is to combine some basic tuition, and some help to the less experienced, with the opportunity to practise what we hope we have learned, in a relaxed atmosphere. Most weeks there will be some pre-prepared hands ready, which aim to illustrate a particular topic.
If you played some years ago and want to brush up on your technique – this is the group for you. If you have never played, but like Whist or other card games, this is your chance to see what it is about Bridge that makes it such a popular (and often addictive) pastime.
The group is taking a break for the summer and we resume on the afternoon of Thursday 11th September at the Petersfield Community Centre, meeting fortnightly thereafter.
If you are interested in joining us in the autumn please ring Frances Halliday on 023 9223 0942 or Valerie Tweddle on 01730 262 942. Whether you have played a little before or are a complete beginner you will be most welcome!
