29 Jun 2010 - Spanish
This is the second year of a
course
labelled 'Early Spanish' last year. We start again in September 2010
and aim at doing 30 weeks in the academic year, broadly following the
evening
class timetable. We meet in my house, on Thursday mornings 10.00 to
11.30, including a break for coffee. The charge is 50p per meeting, to
cover drinks and materials.
We're now a group that knows
each other
fairly well and we've lost relatively few people since we started. There's
a lovely atmosphere - great fun to teach. There's no homework and no
humiliations if people have forgotten stuff we've done. We could take a
maximum of two more people, but we cannot take beginners.
We do some grammar each week. For
example, we've now done the present, present continuous, simple past,
simple
future tenses. But most of the class is practice: reading, listening,
translating to and from Spanish. We include conversation but we are not
a
conversation class. We've had Spanish visitors and the class rose to
the
occasion admirably. And we finished the year with a 'tapas' party. So we mix it up a bit and aim at fun along with the harder sides of
learning a
language.
